The parameter | What is its purpose? |
Lipid panel | Assesses the balance between "bad" cholesterol (LDL), "good" cholesterol (HDL) and triglycerides. Excess LDL or triglycerides raises the risk of plaque deposits in the arteries (atherosclerosis), a major cause of heart attacks and strokes. |
Fasting blood sugar | Elevated blood sugar levels may reveal insulin resistance or early-stage diabetes, both of which increase cardiovascular risk. |
Glycated haemoglobin | Reflects average blood sugar levels over 2 to 3 months. A high result signals a chronic imbalance that can damage blood vessels and accelerate atherosclerosis. |
Lipoprotein(a) Lp(a) | A genetic cardiovascular risk factor. Elevated levels promote the risk of atherosclerosis, even when other blood lipid levels appear normal. |
